Electronic Health Records
Electronic Health Records (EHR) is defined as a systemic collection of electronic health information about individual patients or a population of patients. It is in a digital format that is capable of being shared across different health care settings.
According to HP, Health care organizations and clinical trials generate ten billion paper forms each year. Transcribing dictated chart notes can delay access to the information by days and weeks in some instances. Often, this means that medical records are not available when doctors most need them. Paper records allow access to one person at a time.
Among its many advantages, EHR solutions enable physicians to:
1. Gain secure access to a patient’s complete record – anywhere, anytime
2. Make patient-care decisions based on up-to-the minute information from all involved
3. Track test results
4. Prevent medical errors by providing safety checks on prescription dosages, drug-to-drug interactions, duplicate therapies, and a patient’s previous adverse reactions.
5. Improve patient satisfaction overall
Most importantly, EHR saves time and money. Physicians have reported saving of at least 5 minutes transcription time per patient with EHR. Most physicians see an average of 25 patients per day. On average, physicians are saving 2 hours and 5 minutes per day. The additional 2 hours per day allows Physicians to see additional patients. In some instances this yields a savings of up to $75,000.00.
Avoid becoming a victim of copier hard drive information theft.
In the month of April CBS News ran a special report entitled, Digital Photocopiers Loaded With Secrets. The piece noted that every digital copier created since 2002 has a hard drive similar to the ones in your computer. The piece also brought to surface safety and security issues surrounding theft and hacking of proprietary information that is stored in the copiers’ hard drive.
We take the safety and security of your information seriously. All of the systems EIS sells have encrypted hard drives from the factory. These are virtually impossible to hack into. EIS also offers an option for automatically erasing hard drives. Upon return of a used machine, EIS gives the option to either erase all of the existing data or for you to purchase the hard drive that your company has been using.
EIS understand how important it is to keep your information secure.
It’s important to be aware.

Have you been thinking about your carbon footprint? SAVE THE DATE Wednesday June 9th.
In recent years, the most fashionable way to reduce carbon footprints have been to recycle paper and bottles, compost, drive hybrids and adopt solar, EIS would like to give you some more ideas about how to reduce your footprint!
Some offices reduce energy by turning off their lights or having four day workweeks. A simple neglected fact is that companies typically spend between 2-6% of their revenue on output of paper based information. Greening your copier is essential to reducing your carbon footprint.
Energy:
Computers, printers, fax machines and copiers consume energy even while they are not in use. Most companies leave their copiers on around the clock.
According to a table found on www.APS.com, the cost of a copier that is left on 24 hours a day for 7 days a week costs approximately $224.00. If the copier is shut off at night it will cost approximately $80.00. If you use an Energy Star copier, the average cost for leaving it on 24 hours a day for 7 days a week costs $140.00.
The Energy Star feature in a typical copier can reduce that machine’s annual electricity cost by as much as 60%.
Water & Trees:
Most employees print items off of the internet on one sided paper, read it once and throw it out. A copier with fast and reliable duplexing (double-sided copying) can reduce office paper use by 25 percent or more, saving money in the process (Solid Waste Management Coordinating Board and the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency, April 2000). Also, reducing paper use can contribute to reduction in natural resource consumption as well as in energy used to create paper.
For the production of one piece of A4-paper 10 liters of water is used. Imagine how much water you could save by having a duplex copier?
If all copiers sold in the United States were Energy Star-labeled and set to automatically default to double-sided printing, the amount of paper used could be reduced by more than 200 billion sheets. 1 million tons of paper would be saved, which is enough to save 20 million trees.
Toner:
Most companies order extra toner cartridges for their printers and find out months later that their toner has run dry and is no longer useable. Managed Print Systems monitors when your toner and supplies are running low and reduces your cost and environmental waste.

Beware of Toner Scamming
In recent months, toner scammers have been targeting small to midsize businesses. The scam typically involves an individual calling a series of times until they reach a new employee, temporary personnel or a person who will freely offer information.
Toner scammers will pose as a harmless third party vendor. During their first call they will imitate a concerned vendor who is checking to make certain that everything is fine with toner levels. They may ask questions such as, “Are you low on toner?” or propose offers such as, “We have a special on toners and we see that you use a lot of toner.” They often make it seem that they know your print volume.
Tips to avoid becoming a victim of toner scammers:
1. Avoid giving out your credit card number until you receive a faxed or e-mail invoice. If you receive bills on items that you did not order, you are not obligated to pay, even if the product was already delivered.
2. Inspect your bills and be sure they correspond with the vendors and the prices you were quoted. Do the same when you receive the shipment.
3. Have a designated purchasing person on staff and train new employees to the position.
4. All toners from EIS are marked with our company name.
Remember, EIS staff will never call to ask you if you need toner. If you have elected to not be on our automated system, we ask that you call us with a meter reading to receive additional toner.
Ask us how to get on EIS Agent or PrintSolv Managed Print Systems to avoid running low on toner. EIS Agent or the PrintSolv system will automatically detect when you are low on supplies and ship them to you before you run out. To receive more information regarding our automatic system, please call (925) 371-4100 x102.
